I know Harold is probably the best one to answer this.. but does anyone know how well they hold up? I am looking to get a pair of swords that are the stylized foam and latex type, and have had my eye on a few there in the glass cases. However, I am nervous as they are about 80 bucks a piece. Brose uses one, am I right? the 80 per sword is about my upper limit on funds as well.

Most of those swords are Calimacil - you can read reviews if you can find them online

I have seen them hold up pretty well... however, as the weapon safety guy around these parts (along with chris and scott) I'll tell you to please run them by me before buying them for isles. I hate to be the guy who says *no you cant use the 80$ sword you just bought because it doesnt pass safety check* A lot of them are safe if used properly, there are some (and I dont know if they are calmacil or not) that are just simply unfit for our combat style IMHO.

I'm not sure who makes the ones I was interested in as I believe there are a couple of different makers in that case.

And, just to be clear -

If my weapons checker says he is concerned,
that makes me concerned ...

Boz is fair, and I trust him completely on these calls.

I do know that we discussed a few of the items for sale there,
and I second the notion of checking with him before making any purchase !

Just as a thought - the next Bardic Night will actually be an Isles Bardic -
so you probably could meet up with Boz that night and check things out ...

Talk to Harold about the swords before the game and bring Boz over.
I think They hold up extremely well. I have a Calamacil cutlass that I don't believe anyone has complained about. The only problem Ive encountered was with the Edhellen sword (Soft foam with a glossy finish) It was a wet night and I hit someone with the flat of the blade and it slapped a little more intensely than would regularly have. So I focused more on using the edge from that point and everything was kosher.
