Sounds great! I'm picking up my kite rod at UPS tonight. Do you have any foam laying around?

Speaking of weapons...

NERF now has an adult sized latex type sword. Has anyone examined this thing and determined if it could be used in our (or any) LARP?

from what I have seen it is MUCH harder foam than is typically used in Larp legal boffers. Even my Camicil is softer (and mine's not the softest thing on the field, I'll admit)

But ultimately that's up to Boz, as our resident boffer safety nazi. What say you herr safety marshal?

actually... funny you should ask... i was at target the other night, and happened upon the sword in question... i can say without hesitation that these swords would not stand up to the abuses of boffer combat, and would leave just as many welts/bruises as a calmacil weapon. I cannot reccomend them for use in this game. Though, as always scott and chris can overrule me.

Katja, I have spare foam if you need it (I'm just out of core!)

As for the NERF swords, those are much better than kids hitting each other with sticks and I'd consider carrying one at a con, but they're not soft enough for boffer use.

Thanks, but James has me covered. I'm heading over to his place to make them tonight! :)

Todd and I were looking at those NERF swords and both agree that we wouldn't want to get hit with them in a LARP.

If the normal mindset of fighting in boffer larps was lightest touch then I'd say yes. But most people wail away, trying to hit fast. I'm not trashing anyone in particular here. Its just the way it goes. I think a combination of adrenelin and tiredness as well as desire to hit fast makes harder hits all around in boffer larps.

If I had spare cash, which I don't, I had considered picking up the longsword to strip and repad it, as I have done with old dead IMF weapons... but I don't know that that's feasible as the core is a question mark.
