This came up in a discussion with a Prophecy player, but might also be useful in The Isles.

At night and in the mod building, it's hard to see packets and darts. Would it be possible to make packets from glow in the dark material and "charge" them with a handheld blacklight? (I'm debating sewing one into a shoulder bag.)

This would not be intended to have an in-game effect, just make it easier for PCs and NPCs to see arrows and the rare packet effect.

Would this be a problem? Is there an intention to have glow-in-the-dark have meaning in Isles 2?

Just tossing the idea out,
Anakin

The idea has practical merit, and is basically an extension of having a 'night/module' vs 'day' packet assortment. Hope it doesn't get made into and IG thing. Duncan

How would you do it?

GITD fabric? Where can I get some?

GITD fabric paint? Might make the packe too hard.

GITD ribbons for arrows? Cool, where can I get some?

So, with standard shipping, basically $1 a packet
<NOT an accountants' LARP>
Assuming a (mechanical) half-life of 8 casts
<NOT an accountants' LARP>
and a recovery probability of 90 percent per cast for GITD under night/mod conditions, vs 60 percent for conventional packet technology (CPT).
<NOT an accountants' LARP>
The effective amortized gross cost per cast would be $0.175.
Less about $0.027 for CPT
We're looking at what amounts to 15 cents amortized net cost per GITD cast.

Of course, this opens up a market for packet recovery fees....no, gonna stop now.....

May as well use clear beads as packet filler and a tiny little light stick embedded within...

Depends on the impact effect of the beads... but that's a thought.

I would be against using anything other than birdseed in packets.

I could have sworn JoAnne made a glow-in-the-dark-fabric. Maybe they stopped making it?

There IS glow in the dark yarn to be had for low cost: http://www.seedstitchfineyarn.com/p-431-nightlight-glow-in-the-dark-yarn.aspx

Use that to tie packets and/or make a short packet string like a N*** arrow, and I think we could have the desired effect of seeing a thrown packet in the dark.

I don't know about GITD fabric, but I know they carry GITD fabric paint for about $1.25 a bottle.

But would painted fabric have a measurable difference in feel upon impact?

Probably not, but the question was going to be asked....

Not through clothing, I'd wager. And not even on exposed skin, I'd think, should the player be devoting more than a couple of brain cells to dodging the thing - which BTW, might be easier to do.... :) DWA/MsR

If someone took generic cloth to make the packet, then painted squiggles on it, I don't think it would make that much of a difference. However, I am not the person who takes care of the safety aspect of such things.
