I want to know people's opinons, one painted, it would look a little different I think, but is it /too/ snake like....the same company also sells this http://www.northfur.ca/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_8_19&products_id=59 which is like a reverse of Kazimir's mask which only covers from the bridge of the nose to the chin. It looks nice in the video but it also looks a bit goofy, which is far from my intentions with Crovel, which is why I prefer the first.

I welcome your two gilda, in any form.

I agree with you in preferring the former, the second one is just too goofy.
Just make sure you have enough breathing room and full vision, whichever you choose. Safety first, after all!

The first one's better. It's snakey, but I think the fact that it's shorter would make it better. I wouldn't worry about it.

Vinny,

You will NOT be comfortable in a slush cast latex mask. Think common halloween 'rubber' mask.

I highly reccommend Hot Foam cast masks which is what I believe the Lion-shell masks, like James'/Kazimir's, are.

It's a shame you can't just plant a beak onto the snake mask to make it more tortiselike.

*nods* they will substitiue materials and that's the one I intend to have done, I sent a long email to the makers since their FAQ says they are very good about customizations, we will see how true that is, since I agree with Haruko(i forget your oog name, hun, it's like Jamie or something right? LOL) that it needs to be made a bit less snakey.
I'm hoping on getting something that lasts a while though (even if I have to spend a good penny), and I hear Hot Foam wears away quickly, is it maintainable?

-Vin

PS I dunno mario, I don't think it's too far off

Paja. Her name is Paja.

Anyway, if the paint on the mask is latex then it should be relatively easy to maintain.

Yeah, Varius is right. Go with the hot foam.

The main difference I see is the placement of the nostrals. The turtle has small ones on the top while the mask has them on the side and rather large.

If they are customizing the sculturing of the form, you might want to have them change that.

*nods* One of the questions I asked in the email was how much price difference in making small alterations to the mask, I'll keep the nostrils in mind

Honestly I think this will end up deployed in September..but we shall see

I think this site's stuff is cool.

It would make a really good turtle mask if you could subtract all the sassy flair. ;o)

Amazing how the memory goes. For some reason I keep thinking of a turtle with a beak. I wonder what type I was thinking of? Or was it a cartoon I was thinking of?

I took a moment to check the net, this is a picture of one I was thinking of.

... ...

Not much more to say if you can get the nostrils moved as said above that would look really nifty. I hope it breathes well.

I once had a prostetic nose for a gnomish character, It not only accumlated water vapor from my breathing but the spirit gum was an enlightining experience...

Wow, the only prostetics I knew about were lyonshell, and I didn't like how their wolf ones looked... Maybe I should consider the muzzle from this site. Dwayne, Mario, you each seem to have had a bit of knowledge regarding these... What do you two think of either http://www.northfur.ca/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_9_25&products_id=102 or http://www.northfur.ca/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_9_25&products_id=103

I think it'd be neat, but I'm not sure if it'd bother me to the point I'd be like 'forget it...'

That's a turtle, you're right, they do have a bit of a beak. Crovel is a Tortoise though. Drool

BTW Everyone, Update: One of them got back to me, and now we're in talks about him making a new mold for a Tortoise in Hot Foam , He seems like a nice guy who pointed the nostrils out to me before I had a chance to point them out to him. If he's able to keep the rights and sell more (I don't really care) then he's able to charge me a good deal less for the mold. He also says I have an option to send a piece of art of what Crovel looks like and he can make a custom mold he will then destroy, but will charge full price for that mold. Since I can't draw I opted for the former. Sadly, he's on his way to a convention I won't have this until the event after next :-(.

*seriously* badass. Let me know if you haven any questions about comfort or anything. Also, a couple of tips: bring straws. Drinking through a prosthesis is no fun. Also cut your food *much* smaller than you ordinarily would. And finally, be sure you've got a good stock of stuff to keep your nose from running.

I ditto his thanks...

Having a mask at the end of the event messy with body fluids and food does not sound too good.

Unfortunately, in the end, there's very little to be done about the bodily fluids. There's nothing you can do to keep from sweating, and these things don't wick moisture away or anything. With a hot foam piece, it all pools wherever there's loose space. I usually go and adjust my prosthesis three or four times over the course of the day.
