Okay, this is about the Spectrum Trap system, located here.

In the rules, as we wrote them, is says that a Spectrum trap goes >BEEP< not ~BUZZ~ or *SNAP/BANG*.

My question is, what qualifies as a >BEEP<? Does anything that does not qualify as a ~BUZZ~ or *SNAP/BANG* default to being a >BEEP<?

Does one of the loud 'personal alarms' qualify as a >BEEP<? How about a standard 'dingdong' doorbell sound?

Obviously a complex melody like a musical ring tone (MP3) on a cell phone doesn't qualify, but does a midi tone that goes beepityboppityboop?

Is it a case by case thing?

I'm most interested in the red question and I'm asking publicly so that everyone is in on the answer and can give input and understand.

Any help/discussion is appreciated.

If I recall the discussions we'd had (at some length) when writing Spectrum, the original intent of the BEEP vs BUZZ vs SNAP/BANG rule was for the Accelerant traps to retain the use of the commonly available, white rectangular buzzers found at Radio Shack and similar places. They make a metallic buzz, as opposed to a smoother electronic tone as is commonly available from the piezoelectric elements also found at the Shack. Electronic doorbells and personal alarms, in my mind, fall into the latter category.

Edit: I just thought of a good verbal example - the sound made when someone got a question wrong on a game show, or guessed a thing not on the Board in Family Feud - that's a Buzz.

More complicated trap sounds should be looked at case-by-case.

So, we have one "Yes" to the use of 'door bell' from Todd? Good.

Anyone else?

Todd covered it pretty much.

Accelerant traps are either Snap Traps - various forms of mousetrap & click-traps,
or Buzz Traps - made by the harsh buzzer noise of an electric buzzer.

Assorted doorbell chimes, the more electonic sounding buzzers, and any recorded style
of audible warning would work as Spectrum reps.
