This thread is primarly directed to clarify something to me about the trap system and what the game staff/plot has decided. Anyone who has something to add, please feel free! ^^

Chris, As far as I was aware prior to the last event was the Spetrum trap system was still in place and was being play tested. Up to that point, due to the expenses required in the system, the rules really haden't been properly tested. I know Kitten sacrificed ALOT of experience to work on her trapping skills, I put some in, as did Starn, and a few other people I'm sure. When we approached Nic/Scott to have some traps made he informed us that the spectrum system had been removed and was no longer in play.

Alright, I can accept that if that's what the staff have decided.. But in another thread today I believe you said it was still active? I'd like you to please clarify this and tell me,
*Is Spectrum still active?
*If not how do we go about making traps?
*Since the arm trap skill and the trapsmith skill were introduced with Spectrum, does that mean those skills are going away too?
*Can we get a refund for spent XP?
*If spectrum is gone, do we need Trapsmith to build traps?

I'm REALLY confused about this now and I'm just hoping to set this straight, and the boards here is an excellent way to make sure every is clear on this too..

Thanks Chris!

I'd also like to add to the questions being asked that if Spectrum is not still in play, and we are using accelerant/nTeraction, then could a recipe list please be published on how to make different traps.

Please make a decision and let us know in a timely fashion.

Edit update: Chris in investigating the source of this false impression of the traps being removed. Please hold for additional information....

Chris,

As was explained to me by Scott (as well as the NPC who played the Master Inquisitor, I forgot his OOG name) at that moment in the logistics line, the "proximity" part of the system was the issue.

Thanks, Chris! ^^

And yea.. I agree with Kitten.. If spectrum goes away, I'll deal.. but I'd like to know how to build traps with the other system, then! ^^; Hope to hear from you, soon!

I spoke with Scott, things are clear now.

The one concern we have, and it will be up to you - the players - to make sure that it does not become an issue :

Traps causing confusion / breaking continuity of game play.

Traps by and large, are a device for the game to challange the players with.
They are used in very controlled circumstance, usually module settings or in things like trapped boxes.

For the most part, you will not find traps used in the field - except for a random encounter.
Using them in a battle situation will almost certainly cause trouble.

The rules are still on a 'playtest' standing, but they are still active.
Scott indicated to me that he owes some points to people whom he was waiting to confirm some
things with me about. That is clear now, and all should be good to go.

My big caution still stands tho - players, be careful how you use them.

The NPC's on the field generally are not watching for traps, they are usually outnumbered
and are trying to play thier parts, recycle, keep moving, etc.
The one time PC's set traps for the NPC's before was during the gate drop, and the
NPC's admittedly did not realize they had tripped anything, due to the darkness & fast pace of the moment.

Those were standard Accelerant style traps, trying to figure out any proximity would have
been impossible - and would have broken the game flow at that moment.

Guard cabins, set traps around the cabin for additional nighttime security - probably all ok.

I know I am being redundant, so I'll just say once more -
I am trusting the players to use common sense in regards to PC use of traps.

Nothing slows down a game like traps in combat.

Just say no.

I'm gonna agree... IRL, using traps in combat are great, not so much in larping... Traps should be used when you know the person is going to be moving slowly enough that they'll know the trap will be tripped, like when you're protecting something, or laying in wait for something.. BEFORE combat begins... at least, that's my opinion...

Thanks for the clarification, Chris! ^^
