Hello, as some of you know I bought a lovely latex hammer a few events ago to use in Isles 2.0. I would love to couple this with a latex shield such as this one (http://www.dungeonknight.com/mercenary-woodenshield-95x55cm.html)

Now I know, no hitting with shields, so don't need to explain that fact. How much should I worry about buying a shield such as this one and not being able to use it?

Just a cuationary note -
We have been on the fence for a while in regards to the Latex weapons.

It will be up to the incoming plot & staff as to if they will be allowed
in Isles - 2.

The NPC's are not fond of them, even more so in the first and last events.
The latex has less give when it gets cold, but unlike traditional weapons
the latex ones actually have an edge on them. When cold - those edges
get rather hard.

To the best of my knowledge, we are one of the very few LARP's that
allow the moulded weapons.

I am not sure how people are leaning -
but I wanted to say something as it was brought up here.

I know from experience at the final event that latex weapons in the cold down right hurt like the dickens, and unlike the traditional foam weapons left bruises.

Now, granted... that goes with the territory, but it really stinks when you accidentally get caught in the face, which happened to me a few time during the weekend. The do have a noticable point to them, and are possibly more dangerous than the "traditional" boffer weapons.

As much as I love the "realism" of a good game which would include the bruises, getting injuries for real is not much fun. Especially the face. I have to side with the safer boffers. At least until we get "real" armor, the I say have at it! :)

Kind of a bummer I bought one from YOC at my last event after having Bozzy check it then. Perhaps I can try to resell it somewhere then. Anyone want a Skow Hammer for 125?

Do you mean "Scrow" the raven's beak war hammer from Calimacil?

Yup. I need to ship it off for replacement since there was some damage to the hammer head I did not notice when I bought it, however I might not if it is up in the air about using it. I'd hate to pay for shipping to Canada for an oversized box only to find out later it's not allowed. Unless someone wants to buy it, I might just keep the damaged one and cut my losses here.

Is $125 what you paid?

just mentioning as you have indicated the head was damaged. I already have my weaponry for Isles 2, but ask around... I might suggest knocking off a few bucks..

I paid 126, and if someone is interested I would ship it off and get the replacement.. paying about 30 shipping. However, since it is up in the air about the latex in 2.0, I am going to not have it replaced unless someone wants to buy it for some other LARP or Ren Event. I could prolly knock it down a bit more, but after getting the replacement from Calamicil I would have spent 156 on it.

Sorry Mike,

I don't know for sure what they are going to do,
but I really thought I shoudl say something.

I'll see what I can poke out of people,
and if nothing else, I expect there will be firm
rulings on the 22nd when everyone is face to face
at the char creation day.

Thanks Chris, and thanks for mentioning it. I'll be honest, at first I was upset, however the "take my ball and go home" theory would still leave me with a unusable hammer. So what purpose would that serve? Instead, as I said, I would just not bother spending extra on a replacement shipping and go another route. After all, I can easily wear it for the Ren Fares I go to on occasion.

Hope you had a great New Years, and I look forward to the 22nd ^^
